MEETING MINUTES…WHITEHALL BOARD OF EDUCATION…July 30, 2018

The July 30, 2018 meeting of the Whitehall Board of Education was held at Whitehall Memorial Elementary Balcony. President, George Everson called the meeting to order at

6:33 pm. Roll was called and a quorum established. Other Board members present: Jason Molis, Byron Fields, Kristen Carroll, and Julie Dokkestul. Absent: Leah Johnson and Dan Koxlien. Others present: Superintendent/9-12 Principal, Mike Beighley; Administrative Manager, Megan Densmore; Finance Manager, Cheryl Maug; Trempealeau County Times Reporter, Abby Sacia.

Molis moved to approve vouchers as presented. Carroll seconded. Aye – All members. Motion carried.

Fields moved to approve the following items of the Motion Calendar:

  1. Approve minutes of May 21, 2018 Regular Meeting
  2. Approve minutes of June 20, 2018 Regular Meeting
  3. Approve minutes of June 20, 2018 Executive Meeting
  4. Approve resignation of Mikayla Smith – ELL Teacher
  5. Approve resignation of Kayla Rudy – Math Teacher
  6. Approve resignation of Nancy Thorson – Head Cook
  7. Approve retirement of Patricia Hagen – Kitchen Staff

Dokkestul seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion carried.

Carroll moved to approve Borrowing Resolution Authorizing Tax and Revenue Anticipation Promissory Note in an Amount not to Exceed $600,000. Pursuant to Section 67.12(12) Wisconsin Statutes retroactive to July 18, 2018. Fields seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion carried.

Beighley gave update on summer maintenance projects: sidewalks & stairs (completed); fencing to close in back; HS Science rooms casework, cabinets & fume hoods; Greenhouse, and HS gym bleachers. All should be completed before the start of school.

Molis moved to approve to continue with Kirk Strang from Strang, Patteson for the 2018-19 school year. Dokkestul seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion carried.

Fields moved to approve the 2018 Annual Meeting date of October 17, 2018 at 6:30 pm. Molis seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion carried.

Dokkestul moved to approve a $.10 increase in lunch, breakfast and adult meal prices for the 2018-19 school year.

Elementary (through Grade 5) Breakfast $1.85, Lunch $2.85

Jr/Sr. High (Grades 6-12) Breakfast $2.10, Lunch $3.05

Adult Breakfast $2.65, Adult Lunch $3.70

Fields seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion carried.

 

Carroll moved to approve Academic Standards for 2018-19 school year as required by legislature. Dokkestul seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion carried.

Molis moved to approve no changes to the activity ticket prices for 2018-19:

Elementary (through Grade 6)  $7

Jr. High (Grades 7-8)  $12

High School (Grades 9-12)  $17

Adult  $30

Senior Citizens (Age 62) – Free Lifetime Pass

Carroll seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion carried.

Molis moved to approve 66:0301 Contract with Blair-Taylor for Special Education Speech & Language Teacher services. Dokkestul seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion carried.

Everson recessed to Executive session pursuant to S.S. 19.85 1(c) to review remaining staffing scenarios and performance observations for 2018-19. Time: 6:56 pm.
