MEETING MINUTES…WHITEHALL BOARD OF EDUCATION…May 10, 2017

The May 10, 2017 meeting of the Whitehall Board of Education was held at Whitehall Memorial Conference Room. President, George Everson called the meeting to order at

6:29 pm. Roll was called and a quorum established. Other Board members present: Byron Fields, Jason Molis, Kristen Carroll, Julie Dokkestul and Dan Koxlien. Absent: Leah Johnson. Others present: Superintendent/9-12 Principal, Mike Beighley; Elementary Principal, Damon Lisowski; Special Education/Pupil Services Director, Vickie O’Dell; MS Principal/Improvement of Instruction Director, Beth Lisowski; Assistant HS Principal/Athletic Director, Jamie Youngbauer; Finance Manager, Cheryl Maug; Reporter, Scott Schultz; Aaron Rittenhouse, JCI.

Everson opened nominations for elections of School Board officers:

Molis nominated Everson for President. Koxlien seconded. Dokkestul moved to close nominations for President. Carroll seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion Carried.

Dokkestul nominated Molis for Vice President. Koxlien seconded. Fields moved to close nominations for Vice President. Carroll seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion Carried.

Fields nominated Carroll for Treasurer. Molis seconded. Koxlien moved to close nominations for Treasurer. Dokkestul seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion Carried.

Carroll nominated Fields for Clerk. Dokkestul seconded. Molis moved to close nominations for Clerk. Koxlien seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion Carried.

WASB and CESA delegates appointed as follows:

WASB – Molis, Dokkestul (Alternate)          CESA – Everson, Molis (Alternate)

Rittenhouse reported that the district should be receiving $20,000 plus from Focus on Energy Rebates for the lighting project. Rittenhouse will continue to report to the Board at each monthly meeting until the lighting and boiler projects are completed.

Molis moved to approve vouchers as presented. Carroll seconded. Aye – All members. Motion carried.

Koxlien moved to approve the following items of the Motion Calendar:

  1. Approve minutes of April 19, 2017 Regular Meeting
  2. Approve minutes of April 19, 2017 Executive Meeting
  3. Approve Summer School Contracts for 2017 (see list)
  4. Set additional regular meeting for Wednesday, May 31st at 6:30 pm.
  5. Move June regular meeting to June 28, 2017 due to schedule conflicts and the end of the fiscal year.

Fields seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion carried.

Reviewed Board of Education Committee assignments for 2017-18 with no changes to the current committees.

WIAA is a voluntary membership and there are no membership fees. As an added benefit, each 9-12 student athlete participating in a WIAA sponsored sport is covered by Concussion insurance. Coverage is up to $25,000 per occurrence. Dokkestul moved to approve WIAA membership for Grades 9-12 for 2017-18. Molis seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion carried.

Item 10. C. of Action Calendar moved to the May 31st meeting agenda.

Koxlien moved to approve Middle/High School Administrative Assistant contract for Elsa Kulig. Carroll seconded. Aye – All Members. Motion carried.

Items 10. E. and 10. F. moved to Executive Session.

Board representatives, Fields and Everson will hand out diplomas. Graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, May 26th at 7:00 pm.

Everson recessed to Executive session pursuant to S.S. 19.85 1(c) to discuss and/or approve the retirement of the District Executive Assistant as well as the discussion of the contract for a replacement. Time: 6:31 pm.
