Auditions for the Whitehall School District spring musical, Willy Wonka, are coming up soon! Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to life in this stage adaptation of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, which features the songs from the classic family film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The characters range in age from young children to grandparents. The most demanding roles in this play are Willy Wonka, Charlie, and Grandpa Joe. I will be considering students in grades 4 – 12 for the five children that receive golden tickets! Some students will only be squirrels! Every attempt will be made to include as many students as possible.
The best thing you can do for auditions is come prepared! Practice reading lines, and singing the songs included in the audition packet. I encourage you to maintain an open mind regarding what role you could be given. There are a lot of things taken into consideration before decisions are made. First and foremost, I am looking for the best talent for the part; however, I also think about individuals’ work ethic, attitude, ability to take direction, attendance in past musicals, and grades. In short, your ‘character’ does matter. Every role, no matter the size is an important part of the show. “There are no small roles, only small actors.”
Audition packets are available from Mrs. Goplin in the band room, or from the main offices with Mrs. Elvaker and Mrs. Foss.
